Inhabitants

Vita

Vita is a single lady of private means and can easily afford her lovely double-fronted Edwardian home.  She is somewhat arty and a little bohemian in her tastes and friends.




Ada

Ada is cook and housekeeper and, again in the modern way of things, does not live in.  She arrives early in the morning and leaves late in the afternoon, leaving Vita a cold supper.




Dorothy

Dorothy or Dot as she is known is the housemaid and has a spread of duties in this small household.  She is the 'front of house' servant and attends to Vita and any of her visitors.  She does a little light housework such as dusting and helping to make the beds but in the main she waits on Vita and serves meals.



Hilda 

Hilda is a maid of all work and though in today's terms she is an overworked skivvy her position in this house is better than most.  She does have some company and help in the form of Dot and quite a lot of chores, such as the laundry, is bought in from elsewhere.  She does the every day cleaning of the house, fetching and carrying water and the endless making up of fires in the colder weather.  Vita also allows her bits of time off if she is going away for a while so Hilda is very glad of her job.
